Put each metric in the right stage

Clicks tell you someone interacted with an ad. They do not establish that the person ordered, visited or spent profitably. Before reporting success, define the next step the campaign was meant to support.

Google’s campaign setup guidance distinguishes goals such as sales, leads and website traffic. Our interpretation for restaurants is practical: choose and evaluate the outcome deliberately rather than treating all activity as interchangeable.

Connect the report to operations

Separate exposure, intent and completed actions. Video views belong in the first group. Menu visits, calls and booking starts can indicate intent. Confirmed orders and attended reservations are closer to business outcomes, but still need context.

Hypothetical example: an ad generates many menu visits while the order button fails on mobile. More ad spend would not fix the immediate problem. The useful finding is a broken next step, even if click costs look attractive.

Agree on definitions with the restaurant team. Does a reported conversion mean a form started, a form submitted or a booking confirmed? Are cancelled orders excluded? Avoid combining incompatible counts into a single impressive total.

Distinguish attribution from additional demand

A platform may receive credit for a purchase that an existing customer would have made anyway. A weekly sales increase may reflect weather, holidays or an operational change. Neither should be dismissed, but neither proves incremental impact on its own.

For smaller tests, use a consistent reporting window and document confounding factors. For stronger causal claims, seek an appropriately designed experiment with enough data. Do not invent certainty because a dashboard supplies a precise number.

Bring the campaign objective and order flow to a Paid Media review. Limitations: incomplete tracking and small samples constrain conclusions. Revenue is not profit, and attributed revenue is not automatically incremental revenue.
