Fix the dependable things first
When a restaurant asks about AI search, start by opening its menu on a phone. If the page is broken or the location is unclear, a new acronym is unlikely to be the most useful first investment.
Google’s AI search guidance says pages need to be indexed and eligible for a search snippet to appear as supporting links in its AI features; it does not introduce an additional technical requirement. This is Google-specific guidance, not a universal description of every AI service.
Describe the business accurately
LocalBusiness structured data provides a standardized way to describe business details. It should reflect visible, accurate content—not introduce claims visitors cannot verify. Markup is not a substitute for useful pages or a guarantee of enhanced search presentation.
Our recommendation is to prioritize location information, current menus and clear next steps. For several locations, give each its own accurate details. Avoid swapping city names in otherwise identical pages that imply a physical location where none exists.
Hypothetical example: a restaurant group discovers that one branch’s holiday hours differ across its website and profile. Correcting that discrepancy is a concrete improvement. Publishing a long article about “AI-powered dining” without resolving it is not.
Keep experiments separate from foundations
Maintain a short experiment log: question tested, source changed, date and observed result. Do not label a single AI mention a sustained ranking improvement. Keep indexing checks and business-information maintenance on their own schedule.
Ask a provider what it will change, how it will verify the change and which outcome it cannot control. “Guaranteed AI recommendations” is not a credible substitute for that explanation.
Begin with Local Search & SEO. Limitations: these checks improve information quality and technical readiness; they do not guarantee traffic, rankings or customers.
