Start with the experience worth repeating
Before building a follow-up campaign, ask why someone would return. A reliable lunch, a group tradition and a seasonal menu give people different reasons. A message cannot compensate indefinitely for an experience that disappointed them.
Our recommendation is to connect communications to real moments: a welcome after an appropriate signup, a relevant seasonal invitation or a return occasion the guest has chosen to hear about. Avoid using every available contact detail simply because it exists in a transaction record.
Make the invitation specific
Hypothetical example: guests who opted into a restaurant’s email updates receive a concise introduction to a new seasonal dish and a working menu link. The restaurant does not imply an exclusive reward that it cannot honor or send repeated urgency messages after the offer ends.
Check the practical details: audience, language, availability, terms, destination and staff readiness. Use only information needed for the communication. Separate promotional messages from operational confirmations and respect the recipient’s preferences.
Measure return behavior carefully
Look beyond opens. Where reliable records permit, review repeat orders or visits, cancellations, unsubscribes and the cost of the offer. Explain what is observed and what is inferred. A returning guest who received an email was not necessarily brought back by that email.
The FTC’s commercial email guide covers accurate sender information, non-deceptive subjects and opt-out requirements, among other obligations. Use the full guidance and relevant professional advice; an email template alone does not establish compliance.
Build a manageable starting calendar with Email & SMS Marketing. Limitations: this article is not legal advice or a complete SMS compliance checklist. Channel permissions, jurisdiction and platform rules require separate review. No retention uplift is promised.
